GOODCHILD, Neville

No.14703251, Private, Neville GOODCHILD
Aged 19

5th Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment
Died of his Wounds on Tuesday 21st November 1944

Neville Goodchild was born on 30th August 1925 in Burwell (Newmarket Q4-1925 3B:660), baptised in Burwell on 20th November 1925, son of Harry George and Annie GOODCHILD (née PAMMENTER).

His mother died in 1932. In the 1939 register, his father [17-2-1889] was caretaker at, amongst others, the Cemetery Hall and living at 9 Council Houses, Ness Road, Burwell. Also there were his uncle and aunt, Richard (brickyard labourer) and Eva MARSH with their son Roger (butcher's assistant) and Neville's brothers, George H [23-6-1913] and Douglas R GOODCHILD [2-12-1922] both brickyard labourers.

On the 21st November 1944 the 5th Dorsets had just captured Geilenkirchen just across the border into Germany and had met up with their 4th Battalion. There seems to be no way of getting the exact place and day that Neville was wounded. His was the only death for the 5th Dorsets that day.
